Two Lessons In!

We are off to a great start! The Cadet Band is 57 members strong!

At this point, your child should be able to:

  • identify all of the parts of their instrument
  • assemble instrument correctly
  • sit with good posture
  • hold instrument correctly
  • play the first three notes

Every lesson, students should bring their instrument, lesson book, folder, and completed practice sheet.

There is a DVD students are to watch by their next lesson with a checklist to complete. If at all possible, I suggest watching this with your child because there is very useful information on taking care of the instrument and how to play the instrument correctly. This way, you can also help your child at home.

Also, the CD has recordings of every song in the lesson book. Your child can listen and play along with the CD. This can be especially helpful for students playing brass instruments.

Please let me know of any questions or concerns you have. Thank you for your continued support!

Congrats on a great performance!

Thank you for attending the Christmas Concert! The Cadet Band students were excellent and I have received many compliments on their playing and behavior!

If you would like a DVD recording of the performance, please contact me: mandeljl@hoopeston.k12.il.us.

You can also view the video online here: Elementary Christmas Concert. As of this morning, the video hasn’t been edited yet, so you will notice a few glitches here and there. The final DVD will be edited to improve those issues.
